Are you Disempowering your team?

One day you are scheduled for routine surgery. You lay on the operating table while the specialists are preparing. The doctor is wearing his personal protection equipment. The nurses are scrambling around the operating room, preparing for the surgery. The doctor, hovering over you, pulls down his mask. “Do you think I should start with a scalpel or something else?" You are flabbergasted. While you think about articulating a response, the nurses place the gas mask on your face. “OK, count backward from 10."

If you work in business, do you have seasoned people asking you how they should do their jobs? Do you answer them confidently and tell them how to do their jobs? Should you?

Instead of answering for someone and keeping them helpless, start with just asking, “What would you do?”
